Starting in 2021
Leeway’s Development Programme is designed to provide space, resources and a coherent structure of interaction to professional artists in the non-verbal arts. These include, but are not limited to, lines of work in performance, dance, mime, circus, new media, music and visual arts which do not use words. In this programme, a maximum of eight artists from diverse disciplines and backgrounds follow a track of 18 months, a period during which they can work independently as well as together, learn from each other, become acquainted with the communities around them and follow courses at Leiden University (ACPA), the Royal Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KABK). In the weekly sessions of the programme, participants engage in training as well as reflexive activities that facilitate their sharing of processes and practices.
The artists who follow the programme are expected to keep a record of their experiences via texts, still images, moving images, sounds or a combination thereof. The organisers will contribute creative documentation, scholarly analyses and critical responses related to the sessions along the same lines. These records will feed into a publication about the 18 months of creative work, with artistic and academic contents.
